Vincent del Piano
1939 - 2025
Biography
Mr. del Piano has been a marine painter for over 30 years with lifelong experience as a sailor and boat builder. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1939 and was a resident of Winthrop and Marblehead until 2009. In 2010 he moved to Vienna, Maine with his wife, where he continued to paint marine as well as local landscapes. After a long illness, he passed away in September, 2025. His wife is carrying on his legacy through his artwork.
Physicist, engineer, boat builder, vagabond under sail, art dealer and finally oil painter, Vincent del Piano brings an eclectic and diverse background to his work as an Artist.
Mr. del Piano participated in the American Space Program in the ’60s as an Electro-Optical Systems Analyst and laser physicist. Another ten years was consumed applying his skills as a boat builder and sailor, which he acquired in his youth. Following that he was self-employed as the proprietor of a framing art gallery in suburban Boston. This latter experience lead him back to his own roots as an Artist, which he had demonstrated as a child, and had all but abandoned. He began his career as an Artist in 1983 and he is for the most part self taught. Mr. del Piano has been a member of the International Society of Marine Painters (ISMP) since 1994 and was formerly a member of the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) (1984-1997). He has exhibited at Mystic Seaport, Mystic, Connecticut, the Mariner’s Museum, Newport News, Virginia, the Kings Point Maritime Academy, Kings Point, New York, and the Bayview Gallery, Camden, Maine.
